Botswana’s youth, who make up a significant portion of the population, are crucial stakeholders in the fight against climate change. Despite their potential, young people face challenges such as limited access to resources, lack of representation in policy making, and insufficient opportunities for capacity-building. According to recent statistics, over 60% of Botswana’s population is under the age of 30, highlighting the urgent need to harness this demographic’s potential in climate action.
GAYO Botswana believes that youth involvement in climate policy discussion is key, necessitating strengthened stakeholder participation, increased capacity-building initiatives, and financial allocations for local and indigenous climate action. Providing solutions to pressing environmental issues through youth empowerment, skills development, and public education should be everyone’s mandate.
Indicator 01
Track the number of young people, and youth-led and/or youth-focused organizations actively participating in YCC activities and policy discussions.

Measure the number and impact of training sessions conducted.

Monitor the incorporation of youth perspectives in climate policies and strategies.

Our Mission
Addressing Existing Gaps
Botswana’s current climate policies focus on sustainable development, environmental conservation, and resilience building. However, gaps exist in effectively integrating youth perspectives and ensuring their active participation in these policies. The YCC Botswana will fill these gaps by providing a formal mechanism for youth involvement, advocating for inclusive climate policies, and fostering collaborations with key stakeholders.
